L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science

Dr. Leow received the L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science award. This is an an endowment that helps women scientists advance their research – which is in line with the L'Oréal Fondation's three-pronged mission of promoting the progress of inclusive beauty, scientific research, and climate change sustainability.

Our paper titled "Electrified hydrocarbon-to-oxygenates coupled to hydrogen evolution for efficient greenhouse gas mitigation" is now online in Nature Communications. We find that hydrogen manufacture and the refining of hydrocarbons to commodities have the highest CO2 emissions in the chemicals industry. We propose that electrification and coupling of both processes can reduce total emissions by up to 39% even with the electricity mix today.
